Arrival

The system arrived at the University of Washington on Thursday, May 13. The 19,600 pounds of e-beam equipment filled a huge, temperature-controlled, air-ride moving van. (For you sci-fi fans, just before our e-beam, this moving van had just moved the Star Wars museum exhibit, including the original R2D2 !)

The system was shipped from Tokyo in 9 huge crates, which were transported inside a climate-controlled container to the Port of Seattle, and then to the UW.

The main unit of the system, weighing nearly 7000 pounds, is moved into place inside the new cleanroom addition in Fluke Hall. (If you’re wondering what you’re seeing, yes, we suspended the rules for the equipment move-in. The cleanliness quickly recovered to better than its Class 100 cleanroom design.)
